The joyous task of The Writer Conversation is to evolve ideal environments for Australian writers of all kinds and at every level of practice. For the new and emerging - an environment to support a writer from early recognition to publisher readiness; for the published - presentation and subsidised marketing for books that deserve a renewed readership; for all writers —a generous awards program and an annual publication.
We are entirely self-funding and offer all our programs at no cost beyond the annual fee. We can do this because The Writer Conversation and its companion program The Reader Conversation work together to form an ecosystem: The Reader Conversation creates an engaged national readership and a secure financial base for the vital programs of The Writer Conversation.
The Creative Director of The Writer Conversation is Peter Bishop. Peter was Foundation Creative Director of Varuna - The Writers’ House from 1994 to 2010. He has been working out the ecosystem of Writer and Reader Conversations for well over ten years. Peter’s unique way of working with writers has been warmly recognised in literally hundreds of books.
